Located on the Coastal Walkway,  with the best that New Plymouth has to offer within walking distance, you can find some of the best food, drink, sites and shopping that New Plymouth has to offer.

Breakwater Bay

Breakwater Bay is a group of businesses at the Lee Breakwater end of Port Taranaki. We encourage you to spend some time to visit and explore this area during your stay. There is a range of eateries, activities, shops and services for your convenience. 

At Breakwater Bay there are several restaurants and cafes on offer. No need to drive as Breakwater Bay is located directly below the park and is less than a 5-minute walk away. 

  • Catch and Co – Great fish and chips, fish caught locally.
  • The Bach on Breakwater Café – open Wednesday to Sundays – for a great coffee or meal.
  • The New Plymouth Sport Fishing and Underwater Club – non-members are very welcome for drinks and dinner. Super family meals.
  • Gusto Restaurant - a fabulous a la carte menu and amazing sea views.
  • Manou’s Restaurant and Café - a relaxed café with a nautical feel. 

Chaddy's Charters

Sail off on a restored English lifeboat for a one-hour cruise and enjoy the fresh air and view marine wildlife in their natural habitats. Chaddy's Charters runs daily but is weather permitting. 

The Seaside Market

Held at the beautiful Ngamotu Beach, Ocean View Parade. The Seaside Market hosts over 70 stalls showcasing local businesses, crafts, clothing, jewellery, decor and more. Held fortnightly on a Sunday, from 9 am-2 pm. 

Museum of Contemporary Art

With its curved exterior walls of mirror-like stainless steel, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre is the country’s first example of destination architecture linked to contemporary art and is one of the country’s most iconic buildings. Open seven days a week: 10am-5pm.

Pukekura Park

Pukekura Park is not just your average city domain. Take your pick of multiple tracks through native and exotic trees to lookouts over lakes, water fountains, then check out more gardens to explore below. The park is very photogenic with its red footbridges, waterfall and waterwheel. 

Mount Taranaki

Great walking options in the native bush. The North Egmont Visitors Centre is a short 30-40 min drive from New Plymouth and has spectacular views.
